Donna Kauffman is an award-winning, nationally bestselling author of 26 contemporary romance novels and four novellas. Her first book, ILLEGAL MOTION, was published in 1993 by Bantam Loveswept. This book was nominated for a Reviewer's Choice Award for Best First Book and she was nominated for a Career Achievement Award in Romantic Suspense from Romantic Times Magazine that year. After writing 14 books for Bantam's Loveswept line, Donna is now writing single title contemporary romance for Bantam. Her first, THE LEGEND MACKINNON, was released in April 1999 and is currently in its fifth printing. It was one of Amazon's Top Ten Spectacular Sleepers of 99. It has won a RIO Dorothy Parker Award for Best Paranormal and placed second for Best Book of the Year. It was also nominated for a Golden Quill, won a Romantic Times Top Pick, a Barnes & Noble Top 5 Pick and a Romance Communications Reviewers Award. LEGEND OF THE SORCERER went to a second printing even before it hit the shelves. Her 2001 release, THE ROYAL HUNTER, was a featured selection for Doubleday Book Club, Rhapsody and Venus Book Club and also available through Doubleday's Science Fiction book club. It has been nominated by Romantic Times for a Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Alternate Reality Romance. Donna also writes for Harlequin's Temptation and Blaze lines and has been nominated for her second Career Achievement award from Romantic Times, this time in Series Romance. Her first Temptation, WALK ON THE WILD SIDE was the top bestselling category romance for Amazon that same week. It was a finalist in the National Readers Choice Awards for Best Short Contemporary. Her first Blaze, HER SECRET THRILL won the National Readers Choice Award for Best Erotic Romance. The spin off of that book, HIS PRIVATE PLEASURE, made the Waldenbooks Bestseller list and ranked as high as #123 on Barnes&Noble.com. It has also been nominated by Romantic Times as a Best Blaze of 2002. Her January 2003 Blaze, AGAINST THE ODDS, another spin off, was on Waldenbooks bestseller list for two weeks.
Her last single title release, THE CHARM STONE, is a finalist in the 2003 RITA awards for Best Paranormal Romance, a contemporary paranormal set mostly in Scotland was quoted by New York Times Bestselling author Linda Howard as being, "Sexy, fun...the touch of magic shines through every page." Publisher's Weekly stated, "This summer beach read is sure to make waves." It has already gone back to press for a second printing.
Donna is also currently writing for Kensington Brava. Her first release, a novella titled AND WHEN THEY WERE BAD, part of the I LOVE BAD BOYS anthology (with Lori Foster and Janelle Denison) was out last August. I LOVE BAD BOYS hit the USA Today extended list for two weeks and sat on the Waldenbooks bestseller list for a month. It ranked in the top thirty for Barnes & Noble trade paperbacks for 2002. Her second Brava release is available as of April 2003, in another Bad Boys anthology, BAD BOYS ON BOARD. She is also included in the JINGLE BELL ROCK Christmas "six pack" anthology, which will launch an ongoing connected series of stories titled "Rogue's Hollow." Another Bad Boys anthology is in the works, along with a single title, both due out in 2004.
In addition to the January Blaze and April Brava release in 2003, she will also be featured in Harlequin's MEN OF COURAGE anthology in May, with a spin off Temptation, SEAN, from that anthology coming out in July. Her most exciting news, however, is a new release from Bantam, slated for June 2003 release in trade paperback -- THE BIG BAD WOLF TELLS ALL. NYT Bestselling author Janet Evanovich quoted the book, saying, "Women everywhere will be taking Big Bad Wolf to bed with them. Donna Kauffman writes smart, sexy, with sizzle to spare!" Her next trade single, THE CINDERELLA RULES, tentatively slated for 2004, will be excerpted in the back of WOLF.
Donna has been a member of RWA since 1991, the same year she joined Washington Romance Writers. She served on WRW's board of directors for five years, her last year as immediate past president. She was awarded their Lifetime Achievement award for 2001. She lives in Virginia, surrounded by a menagerie including two sons, two terriers, two parrots and two hamsters. If they build an ark, she's all set.
