Before plunging wholeheartedly into writing erotic romance, Bella Andre got a BA in Economics at Stanford University, worked as a marketing director, and strutted hundreds of stages as a rock star. She currently lives in the Northern California wine country with her fabulous husband, son and dog.
Here's the real story...
I didn't always know that I wanted to be a writer. As far back as I can remember I wanted to be a rock star. There I was, ten years old, dressed up as much like Madonna as I could pull off with no lace anywhere in sight, with a microphone I had made myself out of an old paper towel roll and some masking tape, dancing on my parent's driveway singing "Like a Virgin" at the top of my lungs as the neighbors drove by and wondered which institution I had escaped from. Either that or they thought I was cute.
Fast forward twenty years, one Economics degree from Stanford in my pocket (go ahead, ask me about Supply and Demand curves), four CDs, songs in movies and TV shows, over a thousand gigs all over North America, and suddenly two characters started having a conversation in my head. Instead of immediately checking myself into the aforementioned institution, I wrote down what they were saying. The next day there was more, and the day after that too, until one day I looked down and realized I had written a novel. Not the most marketable one, perhaps, since I didn't have the first clue about what I was doing, but a book nonetheless.
Fast forward another year, a membership to Romance Writers of America in my pocket, a national conference under my belt, and I heard about a publisher called Ellora's Cave that was kicking serious butt. Only, they published erotic romances, and I was writing "regular" ones. So I thought to myself, "Can I write hot sex scenes?" And after three chapters of my first EC release, "Authors in Ecstasy" poured out of me as fast as I could type the words, the answer was an unequivical YES! And who knew it would be this much fun!
So far EC has released four of my books and I'm thrilled to announce that Pocket books will be publishing my next erotic romance, TAKE ME, in November 2005, as a trade paperback. Watch for two more erotic romances coming out in 2006 and 2007 with Pocket Books!
(What happened to the music? Well, I'm still doing some songwriting for the pop/country market. And who knows, I just might sing you a song one day.)
