When sister Eliza Proudfoot took a job at the special clinic run by Professor Christian van Duyl she found him a somewhat formidable character to deal with; large in frame and large in personality; not precisely overbearing, but somehow Eliza kept on geting on the wrong side of him. Nevertheless, it only took her a very short while to fall in love with him. And a great waste of time that was going to be!
Eliza had known from the first that Christian was engaged to the so-suitable Estelle van der Daal - a boring girl, she felt, but evidently she was what he wanted. Was Estelle so suitable, though? Or was Eliza only indulging in wishful thinking?
