Molly was sure of what she wanted to do with her life at an early age. Laura Ingalls Wilder and L. M. Montgomery books made a big impact on her. But since she didn't live on P.E.I, wasn't a girl on the frontier, and Almanzo was already spoken for she decided to make up her own stories.
She still has all the notebooks she filled on family vacations from her spot by the cooler in the "way back" of the station wagon. Except for a few Stephen King–influenced horror stories, dozens of cat stories, and a strange story about a wizard, the rest were romances, featuring chubby bookish girls and boys named Almanzo.
She left her small farming community for college in St. Louis, Missouri. She majored in journalism with a minor in English. She graduated and freelanced for several magazines, all while beginning to work on novels. She moved to Canada and Chicago and California. She was a substitute teacher, worked for a sailing parts catalog, taught swimming lessons, coached a swim team, waited tables, mowed lawns, and worked as a lifeguard. Finally, four years after graduating, just when she was about to go back to school to be a teacher, she sold her first book to Harlequin.
Her real life Almanzo is named Adam. When they married a year ago she moved to Toronto, Canada, where she writes and tries to convince her husband that they should live on P.E.I. So far no luck.
