Leann Harris was born in Aurora, Colorado, during the Korean War. Since both her parents were in the military — her mother a nurse a lieutenant, her father a private who worked in the hospital — she was born in a military hospital with one colonel, a major, and eight lieutenants attending the unusual Franklin breech birth.
She grew up in Denver and when she was 15, her father took a job in Houston. The culture shock combined with the high humidity convinced her she didn’t want to stay in Houston.
She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she got a degree in Deaf Education. She also met her husband there. He was a graduate student studying for a Ph.D. in Physics; Leann had purposely taken a second year of biology to avoid physics in high school. So much for first impressions. They have been married for 29 years and still approach life from very different angles.
Leann taught biology and math to deaf high school students in Dallas until the birth of her oldest child. She retired to raise her daughter and son. When her son started grade school, Leann gave into a lifelong passion and started writing. Her children are carrying on family traditions. Her daughter is a deaf education teacher in Dallas. Her son is taking ASL (American Sign Language) at the University of Texas as his foreign language and plans to work with the deaf after he gets his law degree.
Leann is a former president and founding member of Dallas-area Romance Authors. Her first book, Bride on the Run, was a finalist in the Golden Heart Contest which is sponsored by Romance Writers of America. She had written eight Silhouette Intimate Moments and is always looking for ideas for her next book.
