I've loved to write ever since I picked up my first pencil and learned to string three words together. Later, that love combined with a fascination with history, although not so much the grand political events as how people lived their daily lives. I grew up reading -- devouring, really -- the Brontes, Daphne Du Maurier and Mary Stewart among others, and dreamed of someday joining the ranks of those lofty individuals called authors. I majored in English at the University of Connecticut, and after graduating and relocating to Florida, I joined the editorial staff of a reference book publisher -- practical, but not very passionate. Then a good friend published her first romance novel and I experienced a revelation -- authors were "regular" people like me. That gave me the courage to finally sit down and begin my first novel. At the same time, I joined the Romance Writers of America and the Florida Romance Writers, found critique partners and set out to learn as much as I could about the industry. I began submitting work, collecting a fair share of rejections, and entering writing contests. In fact, it was through a contest that I finally received that magical call. If any word sums up my road to realizing my dream, it's PERSISTENCE!
When asked if romance authors really believe in the happy endings they write about, I point to my husband of more than twenty years and our two fabulous kids and say, "Absolutely!"
