Penelope Jones Halsall (aka. Penny Jordan and Annie Groves) born about 1946 in England, at about seven pounds, was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, who died aged 85, and his wife, Margaret Louise Groves Jones, 86, a Scot. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru". She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister who was always the heroine. After reading a serialized Mills & Boon book in a woman’s magazine, she fell in love with the hero. Penelope was eleven and she quickly became an avid fan. By her early twenties, Penelope was writing for herself, but she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, an agent, who was looking for a new-style Georgette Heyer to be called Caroline Courtnay, contacted the RNA. In her early days, Penelope spent fourteen years working as a shorthand typist in Manchester. Penelope Jones married with Steve Halsall, an accountant, who died from oral cancer. They didn't have children. Her writing career began in earnest when she was 30, and she has since written over 150 category romances for Harlequin, as well as full-length contemporary novels. She has recently branched out into historical novels. Penelope gains much of her inspiration from human interest stories in the news as well as her own family history. She adapted a story told by her grandmother (Elsie Jones) in Ellie Pride. Her goal, when writing romance fiction, is to provide readers with an enjoyment and involvement similar to that she experienced from her early reading. She likes nothing more than to hear her fans share her love: romance. She believes in the importance of love, including the benefits and happiness it brings. It's the special bonds linking Harlequin readers and writers that she personally treasures! Penelope works from home, in her kitchen in a beautiful mock Tudor house in Nantwich, Cheshire, surrounded by four dogs and two cats, and welcomes interruptions from her friends and family.
