I learned much of what I know about storytelling from singing. A classically trained soprano, I won the District Metropolitan Opera Auditions after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa. I've sung at Carnegie Hall and shared a stage with Placido Domingo.
I didn't plan to become a romance writer.
Like a lot of the best things in my life, I sort of stumbled into it. I've had a rather checkered past, you see. After I decided to not to lay my family on the altar of my singing career, I dabbled in lots of different things. I've been--hold on!--a teacher, a choir director, a director of children's ministry, a homeschooling mom, a realtor, a banker, and now an author.

My DH and children supported me completely when I decided to try my hand at writing. I overheard one of my daughters tell her friend, "Well, of course, my mom can do it. She's a Renaissance Woman. She can do anything!"
After that, I didn't dare fail.
At college, I studied music. While that makes me a creative person at heart, it's no guarantee of writing ability. I've been a voracious reader since I was a child and as an adult, my reading tastes have always been eclectic. What was I going to write?
Relationships fascinate me. I love the delicate dance between two souls and the steamy adventures possible along the way. History calls to me, so historical romance was a natural choice.
Because of my stage experience, I totally identify with my heroines. After all, I've worn a corset and a bumroll (and had to sing high C's while doing it!) I know what it's like to shiver in a Parisian garret or outsmart a titled lord who’s intent on taking too many liberties with the help. I've lived the lives of a courtesan and a countess, a courtier and a queen. I triumphed uproariously and died tragically. All on stage, of course.
I used what I knew and became a student of the writing craft. I read books on storytelling and novel structure. Most importantly, I started writing every day. If you'd like to learn more about my odyssey from reader to published author, stop by my Facebook or blog. I love to visit with writers and readers.
Now I write full-time. I still adore history, art, travel and new experiences. I'd rather have an adventure than a new sofa. My DH and I have lived in 9 different states, 4 time zones, but we now call New England home.
I love creating my sexy romantic stories. If you'd like to get to know me better, please sign up for my newsletter. Friend me on the social networks. I look forward to meeting YOU!
