Helena of York has been forced to live a lie. A saxon noblewoman who is considered an outlaw after her father was killed. She now lives as a Norman lady in order to get into the courts of Richard I of England. She is willing to pay any price in order to seek her revenge on the person responsible for her father's death.
While at court she comes into contact with the "Black Baron", Count of Dinan who was once the Kings favorite but who now finds himself an outcast from Richard's court. He is everything his name implies yet he helps her and keeps her secret. He also wakes deeper feeling that she has never experienced before.
Stephen finds himself drawn to the lady who is not who she claims to be. He knows her secret and can't help be drawn to the brave and bold lady. Now he finds himself right in the middle of her quest and it will be a difficult task to protect her from not only her father's killer, but also from the conspiracy that will not only threaten their lives but that of the crown of England.
