A Marriage of Convenience . . .
It all began with the dying whim of that old tyrant, Lord Lavenham, whose last wish was to see his nephew, Sir Tristam, married to his capricious French refugee granddaughter, Eustacie.
But Eustacie bristled at the idea and claimed she would rather embrace Mme. Guillotine than make such a marriage.
She ran away in the night. To have an adventure, as she put it. And was captured by a smuggler. A very handsome smuggler. It was all wonderfully mysterious.
Then she discovered the handsome smuggler bore the same name as her grandfather and the mystery deepened. Now Eustacie's adventure began in earnest.
