My background is in broadcasting which I thought was a crazy business
until I accidentally found myself in the publishing. (To this point my career
had been one big accident!) Broadcasting is a great training ground as it
happens. I started as a copy writer in rock ‘n roll radio and ended at a
writer/producer/host at a local PBS TV station. This is known as running the
gamut or living a cliche. But notice writer has always been a part of my job
I worked in Miami and Los Angles, major broadcast markets which create a
tolerance of stress and define the phrase working under pressure. Stress
becomes a way of life. After awhile you can't live without it. If you don't
have it, you go out and get it. "A package of stress please. King size."
As a single working mom I raised two children. Alexandra who bravely
teaches middle-school and Ted who is a Lt. Commander, aviator in the U.S.
Navy. When I was a working mom we were told the only pictures that would be
taken of our children in later years would be mug shots with those big
numbers beneath their names. So you can imagine my relief.
Looking back my obsession began when a neighbor gave me a book by
Georgette Heyer. To this day, Ms. Heyer inspires more writers than even
Four years ago I remarried. Dave and I had briefly dated in college
before he set off to win fame in show business. Yeah, right. Well, he did.
On Laugh-In, the Partridge Family and Alice. Not too many folks remember Camp
Runamuck. There are no residuals - but now, when we're bored we can go to
e-bay to see what Mr. Kincaid item is currently on auction.
