This fast-paced historical adventure is also a story of the bond between a father and his daughters. Luke McCall and his four daughters, Hank, Andy, Brett and Delaney, are mustangers in 1863 California.
Eli Stark, a corrupt lawman, reneges on a deal for Luke McCall's mustang herd when 10 year-old Delaney, the youngest daughter, refuses to marry him. Framed as horse thieves, the McCalls flee with the law in pursuit. They head for the Sierra Nevadas and Virginia City to start a new life.
Along the way, Luke McCall is wounded and must be left behind and the girls must face a mountain crossing more dangerous than any enemy. Along the way, Delaney, the youngest, falls in love with a mysterious stranger little knowing that he's a bounty hunter sent by Stark to bring the family in.
The McCalls aren't known for double-crossing, lying, or going back on their word . . . but they aren't above getting even. When the final chips are down, and the last card is played, the daughters of Luke McCall will either win it all, or lose everything . . .
