Review for Portrait of a Lover
Author: Julianne MacLean

Reviewer Comments: Lady Irisa Langley wants control over her life. In a moment of daring she tells her parents she will choose the man she will marry and if they give her any grief she will tell society the truth about her birth. She knows her parents will do all they can to keep the secret that would ruin them. After years of looking for the man she could possibly love she finds him. He is Lord Lucas Ashton “The Saint” so named because he doesn’t share in the vice of society. He is cautious and before she can marry him she feels she will have to be honest about her life…birth. What will happen if she tells the saint the truth?

Lucas wants to live a life without regret or scandal. When he finally decides that Irisa is the woman he wants to marry he has no idea how difficult it’s going to be to get the lady to the alter. No matter what he isn’t going to let this sensual lass get away from him. But, will he be able to keep her safe? Getting to the alter has never been so much work.

Ms. Monroe’s latest effort is entertaining but the reader should be forewarned that Irisa is a strong lead with a lot of modern ideas. The use of misunderstanding is the vehicle of choice here to keep our lovers apart. Lucas is a well crafted hero…and one the readers will be rooting for.

Review for Portrait of a Lover
Author: Julianne MacLean

Reviewer Comments: They were two strangers who met on a train -- a lovely young woman and a handsome young man who were instantly attracted to one another. Young and slightly unconventional, Annabelle was a budding artist. The young man felt a kindred spirit and though he knew she was above him in class he wanted to pursue a relationship. By the time they left the train he had found out her name. It was a crushing blow to discover she was the adopted sister of his most hated enemy and cousin the Earl of Whitby. With serious misgivings, and under a false name, he and Annabelle carried on a summer long idyll until he finally revealed the truth. Trying to spare her, he lied about his feelings and in the process broke her heart.

Thirteen years later Magnus Wallis, newly come from America, had reentered her life. He was a changed man, had proven his own worth, prosperous, and ready to do whatever he had to in order to beg for Annabelle’s forgiveness and a second chance.

*** This is an author whose presence as an undeniable virtuoso of romantic literature cannot be denied. She has the amazing ability to engage my imagination as a reader with the pure poetry of her writing style, deep character studies, and her emotional storylines. In a roller-coaster ride you’ll experience the joy of first love as well as the heartbreaking rejection Annabelle felt over being deceived by her brother’s most insidious cousin and enemy. I loved Magnus and found him to be a divine, tortured individual whose life detoured onto a different path as a result of age-old lies. Yet, without knowing the truth, he found the strength to go forward and change into the honorable man he felt Annabelle deserved. This was an outstanding story and an author, I very highly recommend.

Reviewer Comments: This the first book Of this author that I have read. I haven't had a book touch me so much as this did. The use of art to show her love for her Lover as well as her love for him! Also the story line kept me going on forever. I was so sad when the book ended. Thanks Julianne for such a great book! I can't wait to find more of your books.
