Review for Lord of Scoundrels (reissue)
Author: Loretta Chase
Date of Review: 09/07/02

Reviewer Comments: Headstrong heroines are not uncommon in romance novels but to have a heroine with that characteristic without bordering to sheer blindness stubbornness makes the reading more enjoyable. In 'Lord of Scoundrels', Jessica Trent is one such heroine. This is one lady who knows what she wants and acts accordingly. An obscene watch doesn't make her blush ; she shoots the hero for ruining her reputation ; seduces her husband ; stands firmly on issues which she believes are right (and they are)...a remarkable lady just right for Sebastian.

Sebastian, despite his reputation, is one emotionally inferior man who hides his insecurity, his loneliness and desire to be loved behind his rakish manners. However, rather wasting his life, he makes himself one of the richest men.

I like this story. It shows the sensitivity of the hero behind his mask, like his fear of crushing his wife on their wedding night because of his huge body and the heroine's fairness and initiative attitude. Although the supporting characters have not made a deep impression (who will get their story in the sequels), with the pleasant reading of this story, I will look forward to reading the next few books in this series.
