Reviewer Comments: I really enjoyed this latest book by Elizabeth Hoyt. She has intrigue, hidden identities and mystery in this book which is sure to delight all of her fans. The story moves quickly and her characters are compelling. Hugh Fitzroy, Duke of Kyle, has been searching for the Lords of Chaos in order to destroy them. He has been working as an agent for the King for several years in order to avoid his disaster of a marriage. Hugh only returned to England after his wife’s death so that he can take care of his two young sons which gives him an opportunity to make up for the time he has been away. When he is rescued by the Ghost of St. Giles and discovers that she is a woman, he becomes intrigued by her. Alf has lived her whole life in St. Giles and has survived by hiding her identity as a woman. She not only roams the roofs at night as the Ghost, but she also roams the streets during the day collecting information for the men who pay her. Alf has been attracted to Hugh since their first meeting, but she cannot allow him to know that she is a woman. When she finds herself injured and staying at his house, Alf finds herself even more intrigued by him. Both Alf and Hugh have their baggage. Hugh’s first marriage has made him cynical about love. He doesn’t trust his own emotions. Helping his sons cope with their grief takes a lot out of him and with trying to stop the Lords of Chaos, Hugh has his hands full. Alf doesn’t trust anyone. Where she lives, you learn quickly that trust is rare. Everyone has an agenda. Only one other person knows that she is a woman. Watching Alf and Hugh figure out who they are to each other and who they are together is a delight. I love the way that Ms. Hoyt tells this story. There is so much heart in the way Ms. Hoyt writes. I really like that she talks about Hugh’s sons in such a compelling way and makes them a part of the story. I am excited to see which story she tells next.
