Reviewer Comments: The Drake sisters are back. In Twilight Before Christmas Kate Drake decides that she wants to settle down and open a bookstore in Sea Haven. A bestselling novelist, Kate has seen just about everything in the world and she wants to be closer to family. She has always been attracted to Matthew Granite and when Matt offers to help her renovate the old mill where her bookstore will be, she gratefully agrees. Kate knows that she can’t possibly turn the head of the adventurous ex-Ranger, but is willing to torture herself a bit to be in his company. Matt has been in love with Kate since she was fifteen and his offering to help renovate her property is purely personal. An earthquake unleashes a malevolent force that is intent on hurting Kate and the rest of the Drakes. While trying to figure out why symbols of Christmas are being destroyed, Matt and Kate find that they have more in common than they ever thought.
This second installment of the Drake sisters starts off smoothly and it’s apparent from early on that both Matt and Kate are infatuated with each other. In fact, there isn’t much suspense to their actual relationship. If anything, it was entirely too fast and left me a little skeptical. While I enjoyed the story overall, several plot points jumped out at me as being repetitive and the story felt forced and hurried. Kate was a little lackluster as a character, even though some of that was on purpose. While Feehan has another quick read on her hands, this one didn’t leave me in that happy place. I do look forward to eventually reading about Elle and Joley, so I will chalk this one up as exposition for them.
Reviewer Comments: In the second of an on-going saga of the seven magical and fascinating Drake sisters, Feehan brings Kate Drake, a best selling author back to her hometown of Sea Haven. Kate’s magical gift of ‘voice’ enables her to bring peace and harmony to those in turmoil. Wanting to settle down after her travels, Kate has bought an old historic mill with plans to renovate and turn it into a bookstore and coffee shop.
Matthew Granite is a highly decorated U.S. Army Ranger also returned home to join the family contracting business. Offering his contractor services, it was a wonderful excuse to get closer to Kate. He’s been awestruck from the first moment Matt noticed Kate at the age fifteen and he wrecked his father’s truck when he couldn’t take his eyes off her!
When an earthquake cracked the mill’s foundation revealing a seal that marked a burial crypt, Kate sensed the evil escaping. Before long Kate realized that the evil that had escaped was coming back to not only destroy her, but was also threatened the entire population of Sea Haven. In order to defeat the danger, Kate would need the combined strength of all the Drake sisters to battle this newest threat.
--- I loved this story with an unusual hero who was such an alpha macho male reduced to making a ‘cake’ of himself when face to face with the girl of his dreams! Both Kate and Matt were totally delightful as they finally realized that both held the same ‘secret’ admiration for one another. What I found priceless was the fabulous passion they finally found together as they supported one another when faced with the evil spirit that threatened their future love. Filled with humor, passion and some extremely hot sensual episodes you’ll find the pages flying from start to finish from this magnificent storyteller – you will just LOVE this Drake sister series!!!
Reviewer Comments: The Twilight Before Christmas is Christine Feehan’s second foray into the magical world of The Drake’s Sister and their equally delightful hometown of Sea Haven. The Twilight Before Christmas is Kate Drake’s story, the second of the seven sisters. Kate, although a famous author, is a shy and gentle soul. Unlike her more adventurous sisters, she’s content to live vicariously through her characters and observe the world from a safe distance. But maybe the one exception is Ex-U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, hometown hero and the object of all her romantic fantasies. Matt is as smitten with Kate as she is with him and now that he’s finally gotten the opportunity, he’s determined to turn both their fantasies into the real, soul-searing, passion of the forever kind, but he must first convince Kate that loving and protecting her are the only adventure he really needs from life.
All the Drake sisters have their own unique gift and Kate’s special gift is the ability to bring peace to the souls around her. This Christmas, with the help of her sisters, she must battle a centuries-old fury that’s determined to destroy Christmas and the peace and happiness of the Sea Haven community. To win this battle, Kate must convince a tormented soul to accept the magic of the season and the gift forgiveness, while she must find the courage to accept the adventure of love and the hometown warrior who’s determined to love and protect her and bring her the life of peace she needs.
The Twilight Before Christmas is a delightful story about the magical time of Christmas, and how it often is a time of people coming together in love and forgiveness. The Sea Haven community begins to take on a distinct character in this story. Kate and Matt ‘s love story is passionate and sweet. Kate’s gentle and giving soul ultimately welcomes the fiercely protective heart of Matt’s love and it is a delight to just watch these two together. The reunion of all seven sisters and the interactions between great secondary characters, who are destined to become main characters in future installments of the Drake Series, make this story a delightful and satisfying read.
