Reviewer Comments: What would you do if you lived in a world where vampires were not only known, but out in public? If they were your neighbors? Iris Scanlon decides to create a company where she becomes a daytime vampire concierge. This unique job allows her to earn money for herself and her sister while safely staying away from any danger the vampires may pose to humans. Iris takes care of all a vampire’s needs including shopping for blood, accepting deliveries and delivering paperwork. She thinks she has everything under control until she stumbles over an unconscious vampire and gets talked into taking care of him while keeping his existence a secret.

Cletus Calix has lived longer than anyone can remember. He works as an investigator for the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead. Someone is poisoning vampires which causes them to attack and kill humans. Calix has been asked to investigate and stop this potential disaster. He doesn’t expect to become a victim of the poisoning himself or to find himself dependent on a human female for help.

What follows is a contentious relationship between two people who have been on their own for a while. Calix isn’t used to anyone questioning his orders and Iris isn’t used to anyone giving her orders. These two characters have to rely on one another in order to figure out who is behind the poisoning and to stop that person.

I loved the humor that Molly Harper inserted into this book. There were numerous phrases and situations which made me laugh out loud. Iris and Calix are delightful characters with a lot of heart. This is not a book which allows itself to be taken too seriously.

I also appreciate the fact that I wasn’t sure who the poisoner was until the reveal. There were hints dropped, but we find out with Iris who the culprit really is and there is a nice twist which ties into the ending. I think the story wraps up quite nicely with all of our questions answered.

Having a main character in a vampire novel who not only knows about vampires and words with them, but also maintains as little contact with them as possible was an interesting choice for Iris. She recognizes vampires as the predators that they are and maintains her distance from them. This creates an interesting dynamic when she is forced to help Calix and finds herself spending a great deal of time with him.

I definitely recommend this book as a great read. It is funny, heartfelt and delightful! I can’t wait to see where Molly Harper goes in her next book.
