Reviewer Comments: Yasmine Galnorn starts a new series with this book. This series centers on Whisper Hollow, a town where the dead walk and other supernatural beings live in the woods. The town has several protectors. This story introduces us to the newest spirit shaman and her duties. Kerris Fellwater comes from a long line of spirit shaman. She left Whisper Hollow years ago after a falling out with her grandfather. Now she is back after her grandmother and grandfather died to take over the spirit shaman duities. It is Kerris’ job to make sure that the dead stay put. She escorts them to Penelope who takes them through the veil. Upon arriving home, Kerris realizes that the town has more secrets than she even knew. She has to uncover them before she can move forward in her duties. Since Kerris’ grandmother passed away before Kerris was fully trained, Kerris now has to figure out her new role. There is a lot that Kerris has to learn. Bryan Tierney is Kerris’ new neighbor. She is attracted to him from the first moment that she meets him, but can she trust him? Kerris has to figure out who in the town she can trust. There are so many signs that bad things are in the wind and on the horizon. She has to put all the pieces together in order to keep the town safe. I really enjoyed this book. It is definitely the beginning of a series so a lot of things were left open-ended. Not everything can be resolved since the series is going to be about fighting the evil/dark forces that are surrounding them. Ms. Galenorn does a nice job of setting up the series. She gives us a lot of background and some resolutions so that there are some satisfying moments. We learn more about the town and the powers that surround it. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the series brings. I am not sure that readers will be able to pick this series up in the middle. I look forward to seeing how Ms. Galenorn continues it and explains the history in future books.
