Reviewer Comments: Lucky Charm is the first book in Carly Phillips’s new series. This story has all manner of events including blackmail, arson, power trips mixed with a little insanity, anger, divorce, other forms of mayhem and a centuries old curse.
Derek Corwin believed he had circumvented the curse on the male members of his family which says they will never have a happy marriage with their true love and/or lose their fortune. So despite his divorce and near bankruptcy, he returns home to find his high school sweetheart is available and willing.
Gabrielle Donovan realizes she has one more chance to get back with Derek and, as a well known author, wants to write about the curse to dispel and smash the rumor so the pair can be together. She didn’t expect to fall in love with Derek’s daughter and to be accepted by the family.
This was a fun and light story to read and I enjoyed the way in which Ms Phillips was able to bring the cast of characters in this small town together. She has also creates the mayhem involved and makes for a very plausible scenario. In the next books we will see how the curse will affect others in the family.
