Reviewer Comments: Ranked or unraked, politics, sex and corruption are the underlying themes in this story of another world.
Abbie Haws is a barrister in this world who fights for the rights of the unranked. She is also the face and leader of the Movement for Representative Democracy (MRD), a body who wants some say in the decisions that affect them made by the Ranked Families. Her family are concerned about her and they are also in the fight for justice. Abbie remains on reasonable terms with her ex-fiance and is often the mediator in disputes.
Roman Lyons is the head of the House of Lyons and Ravena. He is fair and just, or so he believes. His wife died fifteen years before and he is training his son in the leadership of Ravena. Roman’s first meeting with Abbie does not go well as he seems to prove the point that Abbie is making. He then must make up the lost ground. Roman falls in lust and then love with Abbie but there appears to be too many obstacles in their way, the most destructive is that Ranked and unranked will not marry. Abbie will have him for as long as they can be together.
Roman wants to give her everything but Abbie is wary that she will be accused of sleeping with Roman just to get her way. A fact that enemies of Roman’s do begin to use. The couple must face many obstacles with Abbie the center of attacks and death threats. She continues in her job which only makes Roman admire and love her even more.
This story has the two aspects of life in this new world and the sexual adventure of Roman and Abbie. The relationship has its ups and downs according to the wills and wants of the political situation but often these can be overcome. The sexual tension between the pair is electric and the reader can see that this couple is destined to be together. I enjoyed this otherworld story.
