Reviewer Comments: I loved every minute of this book. I wasn’t sure how everything would come together until the very end and Jayne Ann Krentz ties all the loose ends together so neatly and believably that you are left with a satisfied feeling. I liked that Ms. Krentz was able to keep her readers guessing about the real reason things were happening in Cooper Island. Madeline Chase lived through a nightmare 18 years ago and fled Cooper Island with her grandmother. Now she is being called back to deal with the old hotel after her grandmother’s death. When she returns, Madeline learns that someone else is very interested in what happened all those years ago and is threatening the lives of anyone who knows about the secret. She has to rely on her best friend from all those years ago and her new security specialist to help her figure out what is going on. Jack Rayner has faced his own share of tragedy and hurt. He owns his own security company and is working on building up a reputation as the man who gets things done. He is also fighting his attraction to Madeline and his own demons. When she calls on him for help, he rushes to Cooper Island. Added to this duo are Daphne Knight, Madeline’s best friend from 18 years ago. Daphne is a designer who is coping with the death of her husband a year ago. She is pulled back to Cooper Island when things become more dangerous. She has to help Madeline figure out what is going on. Abe Rayner, Jack’s brother, also joins the hunt for the killer. He is a computer whiz and works for his brother’s security firm. He also finds himself attracted to Daphne as they spend time hunting for a reason behind the killings. Mrs. Krentz holds her readers’ attention from the very first page. She weaves the strands of the story together in such a way that we have to keep reading. We have to know the secrets that the characters hold and who is willing to kill to keep those secrets buried. Blending romance into the story just adds to the story.
